David Wilkins - Optimizing Organizational Performance through Simulations

ISPI was honored to have David Wilkins speak on the power of training simulations. David's presentation was produced by Mark Boccia, ISPI Potomac Education Technology Chair. Each section ranges from 6-18 minutes and length allowing you the flexibility to view the program in small portions.

Prior to ISPI's March 11th program, Sarah Ward, President of ISPI Potomac, interviews David Wilkins, Senior Director of Product Strategy of Mzinga about his presentation. (5 Mins.)

Dave introduces his topic — optimizing software technology for training simulations. A great example of a video-based training simulation for a pharmaceutical company is shared. (9 min.)

Detailed components of software simulation are reviewed. Key simulation design principles such as "learner discoverability," interaction, and learner control are discussed. Interesting traits and behaviors of today's computer user are highlighted too! (18 min.)

Objectives of software simulation are discussed at length. Dave also discusses "FUD" - how simulations can reduce fear, uncertainty, and doubt. Broadly...how can software simulations be tied into the organization's overall learning objectives when new tools or company initiatives are rolled out... (13 min.)

Several case studies are reviewed from Dave's practice, with key take-aways such as reduced costs and increased speed-to-market via training simulations. He puts the group to work at the end with a mock training simulation. (15 min.)

Mock simulation from part four is reviewed, then Dave shows us first-hand how to build a quick simulation (16 min.)

Resources and brief audience Q&A. Closing credits. (6 min.)
